A new product from crypto wallet maker ZenGo prevents Dapps from stealing your apes. The product, called ClearSign, will confirm and warn you when an app is doing something untoward with your NFTs, a feature that should give collectors some peace of mind.
“ClearSign acts as a firewall in your crypto-wallet,” said founder Ouriel Ohayon.
The feature protects your wallet by giving your transparent information about what you’re signing and where. It reduces the chances that a hacker can access your wallet by explaining, in clear text, what you’re doing and the potential ramifications.
“This has been a critical industry problem: Web3 users need a better way to understand on-chain transactions before signing them,” said Ohayon. “Now, with ClearSign, instead of blindly signing transactions and offline messages, ZenGo customers will get detailed, transparent information and alerts about transactions they are about to sign, helping them avoid scams whenever they sign Dapp transactions and engage with NFTs, DeFi apps or Web3 games.”
As you can see, the system offers detailed instructions about what you are doing what is happening to your wallet. Because it also connects to Discord you can see which Discord interaction triggered the request and you can also see which user and community to which you are connecting. This level of detail allows users to prevent wallet draining app interactions. Further, the system prevents users from signing messages using their seed phrase, a practice that results in takeovers of wallets.
“Needless to say that no wallet brings this level of information or protection to date. This is a first,” said Ohayon.
ZenGo was founded in 2018 and has been one of the consistently secure crypto wallets in the Apple and Google app stores. This addition to the system makes it even more interesting to NFT and Web3 fans and should keep some of our apes safe, if only for a little while.
