Moonbirds and Oddities introduce Creative Commons licensing for owners

NFT projects Moonbirds and Oddities have moved to a Creative Commons license.

“We believe this move honors and respects the values of the internet and web3 and starts a new and important phase of the project,” said Kevin Rose, one of the founders, in a tweet. 

Following the statement, Rose shared his view on how creators tend to protect their work with patents or copyrights and how Web3 could re-examine these principles.

So, in the near future, Moonbirds owners will have the right to use the artworks for creative scopes. Since CC licensing does not cover trademarks, the organization will form the Moonbirds DAO, overseeing licensing of the Moonbirds and Oddities names. Additionally, the company aims to encourage general commercialization and prevent scams, hate speech, and violence.

Moonbirds is an NFT collection of 10,000 PFP artworks with different traits. Following the project’s success, the team rolled out Moonbirds Oddities – ‘companions’ for the genesis owls.

The current floor price of the Moonbirds NFT collection is 15.7 ETH (approximately $26,000 at the time of writing). 162.3K ETH of volume and was traded. 

Among other NFT collections that provide CC0 to holders are Chain Runners, Nouns, and CrypToadz. In July this year, RTFKT, the community-led organization behind the CloneX project, gave NFT owners full commercial rights for the avatars. More than that, the company shared high-quality 3D artworks to be used in Unreal Engine or Unity.
